Put some acetone on a rag and put it on a nice clean white spot and let it set for 5 minutes and then remove it. If it's paint it will peel it off or wrinkle it up a bit.. You might need to get a gallon of Klean Strip and strip the paint off her first. This stuff works great.

Now that you mention it..I did have a rag with acetone on it yesterday...and it did wrinkle the surface...I'll look into some stripper...do I need to sand to bare glass?

The paint stripper won't harm the gelcoat. There shouldn't be any reason to take it down to bare glass, unless of course you find a bunch more delam, which I hope you don't.

Some comparison shots....

I guess I need to take out these dark places...if...they are too shallow (still see surface paint in them) or if they have cracks/gaps on their edges?

Only about 10,999 more of these and the hull will be sanded :)

Call me confused, but never late for dinner...

My question is...is the hull painted? If yes, why not strip all the old paint of with a chemical stripper, then see how much you have to sand...

From this distance it looks like about 3-4 colors are on there...and my only reasoning for stripping all the old stuff off, is that it will make the new paint adhere better...

Forgive me if I missed something, somewhere...

Heck GT, I dunno...just figured I had to sand, lol....you saying I am wasting my efforts and should strip it first? I think WoG and BN74 were saying the same thing...

Will have to get me something to strip it this weekend..I'm all for less sanding :)....but you know me...feel like I have to be doing sumthin...

Yeah bro, strip off all the ol carp and then see what you got...

Here's a tip on strippers...not the ones that dance on poles, but the ones that come in cans...

Get some plastic saran-type wrap...apply the stripper to a section and cover it with the plastic wrap...that keeps the VOC's moist and it doesn't evaporate as quickly...that makes the stuff work a lot better...not saying you'll be able to get it done in one pass, but might get it down to a couple...if you can throw some shade on it, or even spritz some water on it, after it is covered with the plastic wrap, that helps a bit, too...

There, that's something to do...

Laid an acetone soaked rag down...much faster than sanding...

Well for sure, I'd get that stripper I told you about and get all the paint off and then go from there. I'm not gunna lie, all this delam is a little disconcerting.

Hopefully the delam isn't all over the hull. I'm hoping for the best buddy.

On the paint stripper, I have had excellent luck with Kleenstrip aircraft stripper.

Ya that has me worried too....that's why I been talking about it so much...to me it seems that it is only the inside layer....why cant I just feather out what I have ground...and not go so deep on the other places with issues? ...Was up on the boat tonight looking...I really think I will have to do the whole keel the way that part is...cracks all over the keel...not looking good....

Thank BN, I hope it isn't either....I'll be getting the stripper this weekend...see how it goes.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I agree about using the stripper to remove the paint. (not the one on the pole) HAHA
It looks like someone has used some filler in alot of the darker colored places. I would also think you DON'T need to remove any of the deck. In the pic above looks like a patch job that wasn't done right. Did you put any csm and 1708 on the inside of this area? If you did, you can grind down to it if needed and build back out. I wouldn't think the entire boat is this way. That would be way to much damage for you not to notice when you had it all torn down. I think over all you have a very strong hull and alot of work to do.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Ya Decker...right under the spot I have been working on is the bulkhead for the bilge...I had done a small layer of 1708 with a larger one....see below..

DSC00976.jpg

Then later I added a layer in the bilge that covered part of the first layer...

DSC01106.jpg

Then recall I put a full layer down under the tank...

DSC01117.jpg

I had plans to do the same in the ski locker...but ran out of resin and decided to do it after the floor was done and the locker hole cut out...which I haven't done yet....the rest is under foam, so can't get to it from inside now...
