Got a 78 johnson w/85 hp on a 79 rally cruiser. Got 3 wires coming from the switch a white on top, black middle, green on bottom. I have 2 silinoids, I've got 3 wirer coming from the pump, 2 are hooked to silinoid and theirs a bunch of wires coming from the silinoids. The guy I got it from said it kept blowing the silinoids, so I take it he hooked it up wrong. He also said something about an o ring being bad. So thats my problem, I just want to get this hooked up right, I'll need a wireing diagram and maybe some coaching on how to get to the o-ring, I have an assortment of them so I should find one that fits. Can I get some Help thanks:eek:

Your engine has the power trim control box separate from the engine, mounted under the rear deck/spashwell. It has one solenoid which controls the up movement. There should be a trim box wiring diagram glued to the inside of the box cover.

No trim box, however the two solinoids are monted on the back deck. So that explains why he kept blowing the solinoids, so theres only supose to be one. Any ideal where the wires are supose to go on the solinoid. theirs 2 bolts on each side and 2 in front of the solinoid. I've got 3 wires comming from the pump and 3 coming from the switch. What would seem logical is 2 wires going to the solinoid and one to the battery. then from the switch 2 going to the batt. one to the solinoid. that how I have a switch to a light on my truck, well something like that, Can I do some reserch, or do you know how it wired. general wireing instructions would more than likely work.

Please click the thumbnail.

This is the wiring diagram for the three wire motor, Note that the solenoid is only used for lifting the motor. Power for lowering is directly through the switch and wiring harness.

If you have two separate solenoids, you can make it work and I would recommend it. .

Thanks for the diagram, however I don't have, the remote, conector and all that other stuff in that diagram. I do have a base now to start with the diagram. In lamane terms can you tell me how to hook this up with what I have, 3 wires coming from the the pump, 3 coming from the switch and the 2 solinoids. Is it possible to hook it up with what I have. The only thing I can do is study the diagram and see what I can do to hook it up. Ok I see this is the diagram for the whole boat, not just the tilt and trim from what I seen. Is this the case or is it just for the tilt and trim.

Ok so I see I'm missing a tilt trim motor, I was thinking the solilinoids control the pump. I'll have to look on ebay and find 1

Hey was woundering, is the trim motor usually attached to the pump. I'm thinking wires couldn't be going to just a hydrolic pump. to run things, I've got the 3 wires coming from the pump and 3 from the switch. I'll have to look at the diagrams. Oh got a good look at the diagrams, I just looked and thought I need a motor, that how it is when your on stadby waiting on a job, a plumber not an electrition, man this is going to be easy, thanks to you and the info you gave. thanks alot for all the hard work you did, now maybe I can get this thing going, we'll keep our fingers crossed. I'll keep you updated:):):)
