Outboard: 1978 Johnson Sea Horse - 70HP.
I am a relatively new boat owner and am having issues with my outboard. Wondering if any one out there can give me some feedback... I am under the assumption that older 2-strokes are finnicky and often need to be massaged to get the best out of them, but I lately I'm feeling like my sea horse is acting a bit too fussy.
It starts up pretty consistantly, gets into forward pretty smoothly, and runs great when its running. The issue I'm having is when I go from low throttle forward to go (high throttle) it bogs down and dies. It will always die when I try to ease it into higher throttle. The only time I can get it to get up and go (into high throttle) is to open the throttle all the way and dump it. Some days this works every time and I have no issues. Other days it still doesn't like it and dies out. And on those really fussy days, after trying to get it into high throttle & it cuts out a couple times, it won't start back up (seems like it might be getting flooded at this point). I was reading my manual, and I'm wondering if its because I'm not getting enough air when I increase my throttle. Any thoughts on what might be problem? Any suggestions? I appreciate any input, thanks.
