8.1 / 496 Riser material?

What material is the 8.1 / 496 engine risers made of? Looking at the model and shape, I dont think they are cast iron. Bronze?? Stainless??

Couldn't hurt, but I doubt if the Serial number will be of much help if they were changed by a previous owner.

There was an era when the OEM was stainless (thin-wall, vacuum cast).... I managed to get a hold of a pair and put them on my old (1994) V6 (when it was still new). They are still running like the day they were made, along with the manifolds (closed cooled).

I suspect Merc realized they do last a VERY long time, and changed back to cast steel, but had them ceramic coated (they still corrode and need to be changed)..

Yes, sorry again One of those. Walls seem way too thin for cast iron?

Try a magnet.... Cast iron's magnetic, (most) stainless isn't...

Sorry, dont have those yet. Im looking for some risers for my boat project, and those would be great. If made of SS.

And cant find any info about the material used....

Those are SS, and not cast iron.

Thanks Don! Maybe i can get those babys fitted to a 4.3 V6 Dryjoint manifolds with O2 sensor spacers :lol: Dont ask...my engine is one of a kind.....I can show you pics soon of the engine. Its not a performance engine, just a comibination of different parts and way too much of sparetime and money
