Hi! All,
I have a 80 sea king/ Clinton 7.5 HP that sat for a while before I bought it. I removed the carb and took it apart to clean and it had a lot of gum. I cleaned every thing and made sure gas would flow through the carb.
I was trying to be very careful with the float setup as it had a spring on the float needle and a spring that the pin went through that holds the float on. As I was turning the carb to see how the spring was put on, it came apart. I put it back together after cleaning and the float has tension holding it open. My question is( is that the correct way or do I need tension holding it closed?? I hate to put the carb back on to try it because it is a bear to remove. Can sure use some expertise. Thanks John

the tension should hold the float shut, not open. typically the spring has two tangs one that rests on the outer lip of the carb under the bowl gasket the other rests on the backside of the float putting tension on the float holding it closed.i have found that placing the spring on the pin is tricky but if you put the pin through the hole about a quarter way then place the spring on the pin one tang on the backside of the float, then slide the pin allowing the spring to slide and place the upper tang on the outside lip of the carb.needle nose pliers will help you with this procedure good luck.
