80 HP Merc. - no reverse

Hi - thanks for your help. I would assume due to hitting an object, my throttle will no longer go in reverse. We pinpointed the problem to the lower unit, after testing the gear box, etc. I have a 1972 Starcraft with 80HP Thunderbolt Mercury. How much should this cost me to get fixed? I have driven it an entire year so far only going in forward! Otherwise, motor itself runs great. Thanks.

A rebuilt LU will cost about $1200. Labor will vary based on how hard it is to get the old one off, and what the mechanic finds once he gets inside (high end estimate about $700). OUCH!
