thanks i was wondering what that module was behind the carb, does it go bad what happens when it does and how expensive are they. i was considering changing from points to electronic conversion next year anyway but for now need to fix it

Yes, they *can* go bad, there is some electronic parts in there. I replaced mine one time in 20 years of use, I believe it was ~$100. The old one just stopped working, so it was hard to shift out of gear.

:Dwell everyone it was indeed a stripped water pump shaft and the bearing carrier shaft was stripped as well i am going to replace all and replace my ball gears at the same time i also found that a head of the water pump housing was missing bolt broken off in threads so i am going to extract replace housing and re install with new bolts thanks to you all so very much :D

Can't impress on you how important it is to get that little rubber thingy with the splines on the inside GLUED to the shaft. It prevent water from getting in to the coupler and doing just what happened to you.
