80's gamefisher help!

mod# 217-586752 7.5hp motor ran perfect, several times this year no problems. Just died while running. Won't restart. Seems to have good spark. put in a Brand new plug. Clean and adjusted points to .020. Getting plenty of gas. Mixture is fine 50:1 Can't get it to start even with ether. Any ideas?

......... while running perfectly at top speed it seemed to bog down for about 5-10 seconds then died, hasent started since. could it be flooding?........now it won't even catch with starting fluid.

You may have fouled the plug.<br /><br />But anyway, there may well be a part called the fuel pump located in the base flange of the carb. I think int's like a rubber tube thing. They can fail without notice and were available from sears.<br /><br />I believe if it has a split in it it needs replacement.

Hello Yepblaze,<br /><br />I believe you have hit the nail on the head. When I took down the carb. I did notice that little rubber looking thing that had a little split in it. I'll get the engine info and try to get some parts at sears. If they don't carry it, would you know where I can get one. Waiting for your reply. Thanks. as i said, its got a new plug and nice blue spark. compression is about 70 cold,dry...........any ideas?

How old is the fuel you are using???? And by the way NEVER EVER use starting fluid in an outboard unless you really want to kill it.Charlie

If its a tecumseh carb you can probably find the pump element at any lawn mower shop.
