J235TLCNE

I don't have a factory service manual, but have a Seloc (which so far has served me well, that's why I haven't gotten the factory manual). This manual is very skimpy on thermostats - I can't even really tell where it is, or what it takes to remove, check, replace, etc. I've also done a quick search of this forum and looked at an exploded diagram on-line, but still am pretty clueless as to where it is and what it takes to service it.

So, my questions are:

Exactly where is (are?) the thermostat(s)?

What does it take to service them - exactly what parts are needed? Are there any gaskets that need to be replaced? I'd like to have all parts in hand because I don't want this to turn into a two week project while I wait for parts.

I really don't have any reason to suspect the thermostats are bad other than I have no idea when they were changed last. The motor ran perfectly in it's first run of the season - 3 hours of pretty hard running. But, I'm thinking it sounds like maintenance that should be done periodically, and a straightforward DIY. I'm always looking for things I can learn to do myself without messing things up!

Thanks.

D., Guess that Seloc manual isn't serving you too well if you can't find the thermostats. They are located on each head,at the top.Normal socket/wrenches are the tools you need.Your local dealer can set you up with the new parts you need.

DHP

Roger on the Seloc - time to order a factory manual I guess. It was available locally on the day I first needed a service manual so I bought it and it worked well until now. I have both for my other outboard and actually find that sometimes the Seloc is more helpful than the other (merc.) one. I think I'll take a look at the T-stat situation, but wait until I get the factory manual before I dig in. Thanks for the advice.
