Re: '82 Bomber backyard rebuild

Anyway, here's a photo of an 18' Starcraft with what I assume is a CC conversion, which is exactly what I'd want to do, but I can't make out the power of that OB:

Going on the graphics alone its a 70/75hp triple rude from 1977......

Re: '82 Bomber backyard rebuild

Well, my wife just told me that she's going to Australia in a month to visit her sister, so my faint hopes of scoring a new project hull are on hold for a couple of months. I'm really psyched for my wife, though. Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get to go to the other side of the planet with airfare and accommodations provided gratis.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I'm going to keep looking for an aluminum hull...it just may be a tighter squeeze to have anything ready by May of this year. If I can find a side console that I can just mount an engine on and use for the summer before restoring it after the season ends, that may be ideal.

If any VTers (or those in the Adirondack region) see something I should know about this spring, I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers.

Australia in the summer or Vermont in the winter........ hhmmmm which to choose hhmmmm....

Doesn't she need a luggage porter or a Man-Friday? Competent & loyal :)

Nice score for the wife, but bummer, solo for a while in VT in the winter AND no 'new to you' aluminum project boat.... bummer....

Hope she has a great trip!

Unfortunately, there's only free airfare for one, and we just can't swing both of us taking over 2 weeks off.

..and, yeah, I do technically have a project boat in the yard, but I think I've already crossed that bridge. Tin or bust. Hopefully I'll be starting a new resto thread before too long.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

Sydney. Her sister's husband, a very awesome Welsh gentleman, works for Doctors Without Borders there. I hear you, man. They surf every day.

It doesnt usually get that hot in sydney......mid 30's is more the norm because of sea breezes......yesterday was a new record high (45.3 in 1939)......40's in the western suburbs are a vey regular occurance during summer.

OK guys, yeah, bummer that I'm not goin' to the southern hemisphere..........

.....but, the guy with the Chieftain just emailed me back (after I cancelled a time to check it out) and he's gonna do $250 boat/motor/trailer.

Yee-freakin-ha!!!! Barring unforeseen circumstances, I will soon be a member of the Starcraft cult. Sweet.

Honestly, I think the seller's having a much bigger "Admiral" issue than I'll have here, if his eagerness to get it off his property is any indication.

That thing will look kinda funny being towed behind my Subaru in January.

Mayday Mayday Mayday, 82 Bomber Down:dejection:

See me make another mess out of my yard in this thread!>>>http://forums.iboats.com/boat-restoration-building-hull-repair/rough-ready-74-starcraft-chieftan-18-rebuild-589547.html

I would like to thank everybody for the demo and fiberglass advice. Prior to reading this forum, I wouldn't have even considered tearing my boat apart like I did.

While one could consider the time I spent getting to where I did on this project a waste, I see it more as a learning experience. When faced with the cost of fiberglass/resin and the work that still needed to be done, I just didn't want this boat that badly. When I saw the new-to-me Starcraft hull, I knew it was right for me for a project base. Money and personal preference were both equal factors. I hope this doesn't discourage anyone from getting started on a fiberglass boat project.

I'm glad I'll continue to get the advice and answers from some of the folks who helped me here on the new boat build. You guys are great.
