I need to replace the spark advance linkage bushing. It is a hard plastic with a split. Any tricks to getting it in.

Take a pair of pliers and just pop it in.

That didn't work. Will it soften up with oil or do I need to heat it.

You put the ring with the split in it first. Then install the part with gap in it next. Then you put the link in it with the gaped end securing the linkage.
