I am able to pull start my engine, but I can not start it at the ingition. This engine has no choke, and can only be pull started if the key is in the start postion, and can only be cut off by turning the key off. My first thought was the solinoid, but after replacing that, and it still not starting, I went to the electics. But my diagnostics only pointed me to the solinoid being bad. If anyone thinks they can help, PLEASE HELP!!!!!! thanks

Sounds like the neutral start switch in the throttle box.

The ignition switch is new in it, but I did not replace it, my father did. That was my next step, but I was trying to get some insight. As for the neutral switch, I can not pull start it unless it is in neutral, right?

This may sound silly, but how do you jump a solenoid. Sorry about this, but I just got this boat from my father, and all I have ever worked on is cars, and I have never come accross something like this! Thanks again for any help!!!

Maybe I missed this or could be wrong but does the starter turn ( I'm guessing not) there is a switch in the control box that will stop the starter from engaging I would try bypassing this switch to see if you get anything<br />I believe this is what Kart33 was thinking

Re: 82 Johnson 115hp ignition problems

Thanks for the reply!!! I know that the starter will turn, b/c I pulled it off and ran it off of the battery. My problem is that I am not getting any power past the solenoid. Like I said it is brand new, but when I go to start it, I can not get any juice through it. I have tested all of the wires, and it all just stops at the solenoid. I was wondering if that could be something wrong from the ignition itself. Again, I am not very knowledgeable about boats (yet), and I am just looking for a few tips. Thanks again to everyone that has been helping me out!
