82 rude 115hp will keep running after the key is switched off. it lugs way down and runs rough but will keep fireing. there is a powerpack on the engine that is from another 115 but from the opposite side could this be the problem.

Popeye...How does it run when the key is turned on, is it running fine other than the shutting down problem?

When you say power pack, I'm assuming you mean an ignition coil, small black or green roundish thing that the sprak plug wire comes out of?

Do not assume a power pack is an ignition coil. There are 2 power packs and 4 ignition coils on this engine. The ignition coils are "downstream" from the power packs in the great scheme of things. When you say it lugs way down maybe only one bank of cylinders is still firing. There is a wire from each power pack that leads to the key switch. This wire grounds (kills) the power pack when the key is switched to off. The wire is black and yellow and goes into a plug somewhere. I would guess you might have a lousy connection in the plug or somewhere else along the circuit so that the power pack is not getting grounded as it should when you turn the key off.

I had that same problem with a v-6. When the key was turned off the engine sound changed, but kept running on all 6 cyls. Turned out that I had a power pack on one side that was either defective, (bad circuitry) or not compatible (was a 6200 rev limiter). It permitted a firing signal, even after the key switch was turned to off. Changed the pack, and everything was back to normal. Try another pack.
