Re: 83 chrysler force ob 85hp impeller change
Hi,Millerpdt.
The shop manual is available here, at the link at the top of the page. It covers all 3.5-150 Hp, 1962- 84. 1- to 4-cylinder, 2 stroke models.
Part # 230-0187

Parts are available thru Quicksilver brandname (a subsid of Merc) ,and thru siera.

Sorry about the slow replies.the board is hoppin this week, for sure.

The job, with a good compliment of auto tools, the average shadetree mechanic, and the manual and parts, will probably take you about 2 hours or better. Then about 1 hour any time after that. It's about as hard as changing out the water pump on a Chevy 350,if that hard.
In other werdz, you can do it.
If you get stuck, you know where to come and get advice on "un-sticking".
While you are in there, now would be an ideal time to check the lower unit for water contamination, as you will have it off and accessable.
Also, change the thermostat. This takes about as long and is as difficult as changing out one spark plug. It only costs about 9 buks for the assurance that it is in operational order.
After the change, inspect the old impeller. If any vanes are missing, you may want to leave the thermostat out long enough to flush the rubber chunks outta the block. But DO replace it,as it is vital to proper block and head temperature regulation.
