Newbie. Great forum. Thanks for the great tips. Can you guys help me troubleshoot my Force outboard problem which is as follows. Peak wot rpm only 3400 with 17 pitch prop. Similar results with 21 pitch prop. Only reach speeds of 25-29 mph on gps. Otherwise engine performs well. Just does not seem to have the seat of the pants acceleration I was anticipating. Motor is on a 1984 Bayliner 1710 trophy
fish and ski model. I have read others with top speeds above 40 mph. I think this would be possible if I could obtain the 4000-5000 rpm this engine is rated for as operating range. I am looking for suggestions to deal with this problem. The plugs are not wet, the trigger and stator have both been replaced. Compression is 130psi on all cylinders. The fuel line and bulb have been replaced, all purchased at the local marina or on line. Have not decarbed the engine, this is my next step at this point. Please help!!

Try the Seafoam (decarbing) treatment. I gained about 5 MPH on my top end after doing it, and gained a lot of power out of the hole.

Don't forget the fuel pump and filter. A weak or defective diaphram and/or a dirty or clogged filter can inhibit proper fuel flow to the carb and degrade the engine performance. Then do the decarb.

Thanks
I have rebuilt the fuel pump twice. Replaced the bulb twice. Also replaced the fuel line from the tank to the motor.

I am looking foward to a improvement in performance after decarbing. You guys are great!! If anyone else has any tips or suggestions please pass them along. This forum has been very informative and is a huge wealth of info for people who are into repairing their own outboards.
