Hello all.
This is a bit complicated to explain without a picture, but I'll give it a shot. I should be able to get a picture soon.
On the above-mentioned motor, which is on a Grady Tournament 190, I note that on the starboard side of the steering bracket (if that is the right terminology - it's a collar that sits below the powerhead and attaches to the steering system, turning the motor), immediately under the powerhead cowling, there is a screw tapped in, securing something like a spade lug, obviously meant to have a wire connected to it. The wire has corroded off, and is so rotted that it can't even be pulled on with even moderate force without coming apart. I tried the trace the wire, which seems to disappear on a downward track into the lower unit, but it's pretty hopeless without taking things all apart, which I'd like to avoid. My suspicion is that this wire is meant to connect the steering bracket to metal that's in contact with the zincs to prevent corrosion of the bracket (and in fact that bracket has already started to corrode a bit, while the rest of the motor is in very nice shape).
Wondering if anyone has a similar engine and can confirm or debunk this hypothesis. I have the Seloc manual for the engine and this wire isn't discussed, and I suppose it could even be a post-production modification.
If this is in fact the function of that wire, would it be appropriate simply to re-route it to some point on the engine block to obtain the same effect?
THanks in advance for any info.
