84 MerCruiser 120 front motor mount

Looks like the front mount has holes large enough for 1/2" lags to attach to mounting board.

Have 3/8" on hand. Are 3/8" large enough or does it need the full 1/2" lag bolts?

As always any help advice and opinions are appreciated...

If it truley takes a half, I would use it to assure no movement.
