84 mercury lower end questions

OK, I have a questions for those gurus....... I have an 84 merc 150 and I thought I was having shifting problem but maybe that might be fixed tonight but My new question is:
I found a jet unit which is what I really wanted in the first place off a 1995 black max 150. So my question is will it fit on my 1984 black max 150. I know there is a range of years that the lower units fit. Does anybody know?

Drive shaft and shift shaft length are the only variables.
