Thinking about taking down a 1984 Dodge Ram 4x4 pickup. It's a short bed with a 318. Seller says it has "under 100k miles" and is ready to go. He's asking $800. What say ye?

A 1984 with less than 100K on it would be rare. What is "taking down"? I put 140K on an 85 3/4tn 4x4 360 work truck before the frame cracked. Good luck.

Have you seen it? What are you planning to use it for?

I'm not a mopar expert... but would an 84 model have full time 4x4?... if so, keep in mind the gas mileage its going to get (or 'not going to get' depending on how you look at it)

If it's any truck at all it's well worth $800 in my neck of the woods.
Which is fairly close to "your" neck of the woods.

Anything that can haul stuff and pass inspection is worth more than $800. Add working 4x4 to the mix and it should be worth way more than that. Go for it.

I smell rust. If the body and frame isn't rotted out how can you go wrong.

I agree, it could be a great find if everything checks out. 27 years old though, don't expect a new truck. Check out the drive train (specially 4x4), could need more repairs than its worth. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks guys. Forgive the rookie mistake of not providing background regarding intended use. How many times have I admonished others thusly? This would by no means be my daily driver, just a camping, fishing, etc. truck. Need something to beat up so I can keep the Expy nice for family trips. Seems like a straight truck based on pics, but I haven't had time to meet up with the guy yet. Probably be gone by the time I can any way. I'll let you know if anything further develops.

I'd say that truck would great for what you are looking for. Good luck and go get that thing, I know I would.
