I have a 1985 4.5 HP Evinrude engine that has just stopped pumping water. It was working fine and then just stopped (I regularly use it in saltwater).

The model number is CE5RHCOB and the serial number is C7202153.

I know that I should buy an owner's manual, but before I do, can someone please tell me if I am going to have to take the power drive apart in order to remove the lower gear case (in order to gain access to the impeller)? Or to put it more simply, is this a big job or a relatively easy one?

I am not certain that I need to replace the impeller, I assume that it is the problem but I am not certain.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this.

Replacing the impeller or the entire waterpump is a fairly easy strait forward job. When you get your manual read through the cooling section before you begin. The manual should have diagrams & pictures. If you can't buy a manual just now go to the reference section of your library. They have em.

I suggest that you do not run the motor until you get the cooling problem solved. If you have a thermostat replace that as well - it may be clogged or not working.
