Hi Sparky,
Don't mean to hijack your forum, bit I have a similar motor, Johnson, and I have a question. What is the box above the carbuerators? Is it some kind of a tool box? I have seen it on a lot of other similar year/horsepower motors, but I cannot find it in any parts books.

That "box" holds the relays for the trim and tilt motor.

It looks like your rectifier is missing. It definately won't charge the battery without one. Go buy a round one and hook it up like the one in the picture. If unsure, come back and ask about the wiring.
