Well I got the engine running and it seems that ive joined the ranks of having a non working tach. Its a us marine tach that looks like it came stock with the boat. Replaced the bulb on it and now it lights so I know its getting power
( at least to the bulb and ground ) The only other connections are to the battery and signal. After researching the forums the purple wire should be the signal wire. On my engine the purple wire is the generator wire and there is a white wire coming off the terminal strip on the engine labled Tach.
After looking under the dash the purple wire was hooked up to the signal terminal on the tach and the white wire wasnt hooked up to anything. This looks like a stock setup since the tach plugs into the harness with a quick connector. Any ideas how I can check which wire to use for my signal and how to test the tach to see if it will work.
Hopefully this will be the last gremblim to fix and I may actually get my boat in the water. Also ive read that the 20 pole tachs are no longer avail. What can I use for a replacement if I need to.
