'86 50HP Force won't run WOT

Last year I was having issues with my 50HP Force not keeping a fuel prime. I rebuilt both the fuel pump and the carb, replaced the fuel primer bulb and the main fuel line, and removed, inspected, and replaced the reed plate. Took it out today to give it a test run. She holds a prime now, but couldn't get it to run fast enough to come onto plane. Wondering what I could have missed.:facepalm:

With the information provided, I assume keeping a prime means the bulb doesn't collapse. Getting on plane could run the gambit of the entire forum. Details, details, details. Did I mention details?

Details...hmmm, the bulb does not collapse and stays firm. When I got home I took a look at the tower and placed my remote in the WOT position. It appears that the cam on the throttle does not open the throttle on the carb all the way. There is also enough play in the cam so that it does not always return the throttle to the idle position and it tends to idle quite high. I'm wondering if my throttle cables somehow got out of adjustment and is causing this problem. My SELOC manual says about adjusting the cables.

Yes your cables may very well be out of proper adjustment or out of sink with your carb since you replaced the reeds. If you notice at the start of this forum there's a sticky on a link and sink by FrankA. Try that, and with the use of your manual instructions will help.
you also may need to check your(edit) timing as well.

On a totally unrelated topic. Same motor is mounted to an OMC trim unit. I believe it is the older model b/c it has a separate ram and reservoir. When I put it in reverse, the motor pops up b/c the ram needs rebuilding. Can't afford it right now so I want to drill and bolt down the trim. Two 5/16 stainless bolts should hold that from popping up shouldn't it? Not sure what how much shear force the bolt will withstand.

I would be more inclined to think the aluminium your drilling into may crack or break at that point. The bolts should be ok and just keep a close eye on them while in operation.
Maybe you should post some picks of where you are planning to drill and bolt just to be sure.
Also on my last post I spelled timing wrong so the word rimming came up.

Any idea where the tower shaft bearings can be found? I have a fair amount of play fore and aft in my tower shaft.

Tower shaft movement would be most likely an incorrectly adjusted cable. I had the same problem. When you say the engine 'pops up' in reverse, mine does as well, if I give it some stick in reverse. The engine is pulling against your PTT, and unless I'm told otherwise, this is normal. It's happened on every boat I have owned, even from new, and its never bothered me. suppose you aren't meant to go full speed in reverse
