86 Bayliner capri with 85hp force Steering Wheel off

sorry I have a second question already. when I am in the boat and going staight the steering wheel is way off. I straightened the motor and adjusted the nuts on the steering cable until the steering wheel was straight. was this the right thing to do or should I put it back where it was. I have young children and the last thing I want is for somthing to break and hurt someone.

Funny mine was the same way when I got mine a few weeks ago. What I did is was loosen the 4 bolts under the dash that holds the pinion against the rack enough so that the steering wheel would spin free and get it straight that way. Your way sounds easier though.
