86' Blackmax 2.4L (Spare Motor)

Hey guys,
I had someone give me a 2.4L block as a spare (I currently have a 200HP, that seems completely healthy, but it never hurt to have a back up). Everything looks to be there, was told it has low compression in all cylinders, something like 80-90PSI.....

Would this be worth tearing into, and rebuilding to have sitting around if mine ever lets go, or even rebuilding to sell it? I have literally nothing in it at the moment....

I've seen the rebuild kits online for around 1249.00, (ebay, with WSM pistons). Is there anything out of the ordinary on these, or is it just the typical outboard rebuild?
Torque specs would be great if anyone had a link to something like that.... I don't have a manual.... and I know I need to get one, but it's just one of those things I haven't scooped up yet.

I know these are strong running motors, just by the one I have hanging on my boat..... but I've also heard the horror stories about having to bore/sleeve or bore/rechrome a cylinder from some of you guys on here. I know at some point it no longer becomes cost efficient to sink money into an older engine, but I'm kind of hooked on the roar of a two stroke screaming at WOT.

As always, I appreciate the comments/help good or bad.

Take the rebuild $$$, sell the 2.4 and get you a 2.5 powerhead.I wont even build a 2.4 chrome bore for customer anymore...

That's what ill do then fazt. I trust your judgement, a few dumb questions here...
* what kind of gains will I see from a 2.5 vs 2.4?
* do I need to find a fuel injected or a carbed 2.5? Any specific year I should hunt for?
* can I bolt a 2.5 onto my lower and mid that is currently on my 2.4? Will my 2.4 200 cowl fit a 2.5?

Reason for the questions is if like to get a reman powerhead with a warranty or at least "new".

I have been looking for a 2.5 here and there and haven't seen any. I guess people hang onto them... I dont want anything less than the 200 2.4 I have know if anything I wouldn't mind going up to a 225 or 250.

Depends on hull..but will see low end and some top end gains.....

Best year is 91 carbed as 7 petal reed and near 240hp! Any 2.5 from 91 up and EFI/Carb are both good just EFI is little more touchy when come to maintaining...

Yep bolts right up but will need to go to 1 piece cowl..... Here are a couple in my area...
