Re: '86 Force 50 HP timing
If you have a standard automotive timing light its an easy process. This is how I do it, but is not gospel... pull both spark plugs out of the engine, insert them into the spark plug boots, I then take my y shaped custom ground wire and attach to both plugs tightly, then ground the other end of wire to engine ground.
Now you have to bypass the interlock switch, I use a jumper wire connected to both end terminals of the switch. Connect the positive and negative leads of the timing light to the boats battery, you get in the boat, point the timing light at the flywheel straight on. Note the timing mark plate on top of the block, get a buddy, have buddy put the boat into wide open throttle, then have buddy crank the engine while you pull the trigger on the timing light. The pointer line mark should line up with the 28 degree line on the flywheel. The lines on the flywheel (left to right) 28,30,32 degrees. TDC mark is the lone line on the flywheel. If the top cylinder is placed at tdc the lone line will line up with the pointer on the block.
If not at 28 adjust the coupler at the top of the tower, just under the flywheel, until you get it. This is static timing, and will equal 32 degrees wot on the water as specified by the manual. And if im missing something Frank or Jerry please feel free to add or correct me.
