Hi,
I have a 140 hp Mercursier I/O. When I'm at top end the motor wants to cut out. Once I bring it down to around 35 Rpms it runs OK. I have had it running at 42 Rpms at the top end.
I rebuilt the carb, new points and condensor, new plugs and wire and cap.

Anybody have an idea what is wrong?

Thanks,
LMAA:confused:

LMAA, welcome to iboats.
Let's get this to the Mercrusier/Volvo/OMC I/O and Inboard engine forum.

Re: 86' mercursier top end problem

HI,

I saw later I made the mistake under the wrong forum, but I couldn't fix it.

I replaced the filter in the carb already, didn't see any other filter in line. Is there one in the tank?

Thanks in Advance,
LMAA

main problem i read in your post is " points and condenser", i put an electronic ignition in my friends big block V Drive. he said its more reliable and it never ran 4500 RPM WOT before, use to only get 3200. try it you might like not have to worry about points ever again.

Just found a filter on top of the pump, looks like it has been there awhile. I'll get a replacement and try it out.

Thanks Everybody !
