Well I don't know If I would call it a cheaply made part.......Mine is over 20 years old and it didn't break. It may have been adjusted to the point of being stressed a bit too much everytime it went from in-gear to neutral...

Too much stress can break anything (or anybody!!)

Ther's no way to stress it, if it were, the arm would bend and it wasn't. The pin that holds the roller on rusted and broke off.

Yeah....that's a somewhat poorly designed part. Cone clutches eliminated that ESA and eliminated the whole problem.

I am new at this but need help, I have a 89 seaswirl striper it is a nice boat but shifting from netural to forward or reverse is a pain. I have spent a lot of money at a small boat shop in the area and still have a problem with shifting.

Paul: You should start a new thread when you have a new question, even if it's similar. You also need to tell us what kind of engine and drive you have. We don't care what kind of boat it's in.

Cobra shift adjustments are just like any other issue. If you don't do it right, don't expect it to work right. Don't guess. Get a manual, follow it religiously, and your drive will shift perfectly.
