I just bought a small whaler with a 1986 Yamaha 40. The engine turns over nicely but wont start. Pulled the plugs, they are wet with fuel - no ignition. I was told the engine was checked out before I bought it. I suspect something minor. Are there some electrical checks I can do to check that I have electric going to the plugs?

Let's start with the simple stuff. Is the lanyard cord connected to the kill switch? If so, are you getting spark at the plugs?
