i just purchased a 1987 bayliner capri with a 50 hp force motor. took it to a repair shop to give it a once over and although everything checked out fine with the motor and body, he recommended selling it and trying to get my money back. he said that the force is known to be a bad motor and there are no parts available. is he right???

Re: 87 force motor

Wrong TONS of parts everywhere.
They are a bit harder on gas than a new motor but will run and perform as good as any.
They are very easy to work on.
They just seem to scare some mechanics.

You already have the boat and engine, now just go have fun with it. AND go to a different mechanic.

Force engines have an undeserved bad reputation and in reality are quite excellent entry level engines Read: Entry level= inexpensive and without all the goodies such as oil injection.

If it breaks down, parts are still available and you can do almost anything yourself.

I have a 120 Force on a deck boat that has been trouble free for the whole time I have owned it (4yrs). Do your regular maintence.
