Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

I had to cut the back rail to fit the rod holders.

Swim platform all mounted up

Since we bought a new 150 qt cooler..... This one became a bait/livewell..... A small bilge pump and some 1/2" pvc with holes drilled in it and capped on the end makes a great aerator.

I'd say these were about due to be changed :D

So we got these nice SS ones..... figures the holes wouldn't line up.....oh well a little gel coat will fix that.... Sounds like a good next winter project cuz theres stripers and fluke to catch :D

I got some of the leds run and still have a few strips to install and wire up...New trailer lights need to go on...2 more cleats up from  I never seems to end LOL!

I hired a truck, should be there Monday, to come take that piece of junk off your hands!!! No Self Respecting Soprano would be caught on the Water in her. The Dog House and Seats just ruined the whole boat. Wait a minute some Guys in white are here and want me to go with them. They have this funny overcoat they want me to wear. Hmmm... Maybe I'd better say...

Yes nice finish and well made...all the SS parts were good and reasonably priced....they just don't come with screws or bolts.

Thanks guys ..... I had to finish a roof job today for the farmer who lets us hunt his property... 8 sq. roof complete from the rafters up....It was a lot of work but I have 200 prime acres to hunt for free ;)

Tomorrow I'm gonna work on some electrical issues and hook up some leds... plus I want to fire her up and make sure everything is good and ready for fishing next weekend :D Fluke season opens and the stripers are running!!

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Just went through this thread and it takes me back. I restored a 20 foot Horizon last year. Down to the bare hull. I separated the deck from the hull and did a complete floor and stringer job on it. Not something I would do again for what I charged the guy. I can post pics of the one I did, and maybe some vids if I can dig it up for anyone that's interested.

I enjoyed building the stringers, floor, and the foam was fun. The sucky part was cutting all that old crap out. Anyone that tells you that foam won't hold water doesn't know what they are talking about. Ten industrial size trash bags full of that stuff, and each bag weighed probably around 150 lbs! All in all, it was a great experience.

I'll tell you where they screwed up. Maybe they did this with yours too. When they layed glass down over the floor and laminated it, they didn't have the foam under the floor yet. So they drilled a bunch of 3/4 to 1" holes all over it and injected the foam under all that wood, then laid carpet over top of all those open holes. DUH! They should have laid the glass over the floor AFTER they injected to foam and there probably wouldn't have to be threads written up about having to do this to the Four Winns boats. If you guys want to see pics of what I did with this boat, I'll start a thread so I won't intrude on this one.

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Yes I had 2" holes in the deck for foam injection..... Most of my water intrusion came in from the seat base bolts being loose and the boat not being covered by the PO..... If FW would have done a better job on the stringer glass work and some limber holes to let the water out I may have not have had so much damage.....so many voids in the sloppy glass work.

I'd love to see your work :)..... just leave a link here to the thread!

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Little update....Got all the wiring in the dash worked out today.....lots of soldering and shrink tubes :)

Got almost all the leds in and working......just have 2 more strips in the bow storage compartments.... I'm going to install switches in the seat top area so the lights will go on lifting the seat... No pics of the lights cuz the sun was still shining....

I added a 12V plug receptacle near the batteries to plug in the livewell...

I hooked up the water to the outdrive and gave the throttle a few pumps.....hit the key and she fired right up....ran great after the fogging oil burned off....pumped all the antifreeze out and she was spitting water well....

Ran the boat for about 15 minutes....Temp,oil pressure, idle CHECK! All we have to do is go fishin! :D

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

SO here is the update on the first season splash..... Well trailering the boat about an hour and forty five minutes to the jersey shore...hour into the trip we see some smoke from a trailer wheel....ok pull over and can smell brakes....all new stuff last year and about 1000 miles everything was fine....so I crawl under and slack off the adjuster and were off....get to the bait store and check the wheel again....the bearing buddy came off along the way and the wheel bearing is shot....

Well were 1/2 mile from the ramp and were going fishing!! Limp to the ramp on three good wheels and launch the boat...:)

OK cool launch goes pretty smooth...boat fires right up...off we go

About 5 minutes into the trip out and about 1/2 mile out into the bay.... a shudder and the engine revs to about 4500 rpm and no propulsion forward....DAMN:facepalm: Now what.... shut her down and check the prop....did we spin a hub??? Naaaa couldn't be so simple.

We put it forward, engine off and I rotate the prop...it locks on the dog ears....reverse same thing.....well I will have to assume the worst and hope for the best....I see an engine coupler job in the near future....best case it's a u-joint...

Well at least where we broke the bluefish were slamming everything we threw at them....must have landed 30 fish before Sea Tow came out and brought us back to the dock...$300 dollar tow

One of the guys out with us lived maybe a mile away so we ended up at his place....tore the wheel and brake assy apart...got new bearings and grease seal....put it all together and got home....guess I'll be pulling the out drive off tomorrow to see what let go....I pray for an easy fix but I know better.....It will be a good time to check everything behind the engine and transom plate and gelcoat the bilge area...

So it still holds true....BOAT = Bust out another thousand!

So how was your guys day????
