Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Well it's been a long time and after a long hunting season it's time to get back on some of the things we never got to last year. One thing I wanted to get to was the teak swim platform.... it is in sad shape so time to break out the sander and see if I can bring it back to life.

all the screws removed

that looks better!

More to come.... I also need to glass the engine cover and build some rear seats and other odds and ends......
See Ya all soon!

Well, well, well....Look who the cat drug back to the forum.
Welcome back Rick!!!!

On your teak, I'd recommend after sanding it all down, to apply two coats of epoxy and then several coats of Epiphanes Marine Varnish. It will look AWESOME.

This guys a fellow iBoater. I learned a LOT from him.

Thats a great video Woody thanks for the link. I'm not looking to take it that far because the teak is pretty bad. I refinished the other teak with Cabot Spar Var on the inside of the boat and it's pretty good from what I had to work with. Not looking for show quality just clean it up some and put some protection on the wood......

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

OK 4 coats down and it's really getting there.

I used some 1/4 20 screws with nuts on both sides to make little legs so I could flip it and do both sides.

A couple of more coats of varnish and it will be ready to mount on the boat.....Still have to work on the ladder..... it's bent and the steps need refinishing but we'll get-R-done :D

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Well the swim platform is ready to be bolted on. I worked on some quick disconnect rear seats today. I grabbed some couch seat cushions from the trash a while back so theres my seat foam....some scrap 3/4 ply for bases and backs all set!

Seat bottom 2x2 front and rear edges so it can lock into 2x4s on the engine cover and side panels.

The seat back has a key to fit into the keyhole in the seat base. I'll use a ss T nut and thumb screw to fasten the seat back to the rear cap. that will lock it in and have easy access if I need to get to the batterys, trim pump or engine.

painted up the wood for the seats with ext paint.

Free foam! The electric knife works great for cutting foam.

Even had some time to clean up the steps for the swim platform.

I have the vinyl cut out for the seat cushions and I'll get around to sewing them tomorrow. Now I have to get to glassing the engine cover next...... It never ends.... Guess thats why I love it! Always something to tinker with :D

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

Had some time on my hands so more tinkering :D

Got the rear seat covers all sewn together.

Engine cover covered in glass and resin.....needs some sanding then gel coat.

Painted the inside over thinned resin and installed insulation with spray adhesive and SS staples

Rear seat support blocks mounted and glassed....

Now I need to get the vinyl stapled to the seat bases and get them all back in the boat.....still have to build the storage area at the transom area.

NIce work rr. Are you going to support the backs of the seats or do they rest on the transom?

Re: 87 Four Winns 210 Horizon resto

The back of the seat fits into the bottom cushion frame and I will bolt the back to the transom area....there is a storage area for the bimini top...A thumb screw will go throught the wall into a T-Nut in the seat back. It's all out of 3/4" ply and 2x4 material.....should be good and strong. I will post pics when I set everything.

I can't attach the vinyl on the back cushion till a dry fit and drill the hole for the T-Nut.

See the ledge at the transom.....we enclosed that with 3/4'' ply and will glass and gelcoat and install a lid
