So back to the windlass mounting.... Woodonglass what do you think of the previously mentioned way to beef up the bow for a windlass?? Just don't know if I can get up in there and grind glass... I may be able to scuff up the area, clean with acetone and PB the ply up there... The mounting hardware for all the windlass parts should hold it in place till it sets....or maybe PL?

RR, sorry buddy, I been busy in the WoodShop and NOT making the rounds on the Forum like is should!!! It's all about Stress on the structure. Not being there is a hinderance but you KNOW enuf about the way things should go soooo...use your noggin and best judgement and install it the best way you can. PB certainly wouldn't hurt . Some sort of plywood structural support undert the seat wouldn't either. Post up some pics of where it's gunna be mounted so I can get my brain to thinkin on it a bit. You KNOW I'm Old and Dumb and need all the help I can get!!!:lol:​

Well this is how she sits right now... Guess I'll have to roll back the cover and take pics. I'll try to find a bow pic of a similar boat for an idea.

Just found an old pic from when I first went to look at the boat... I want to mount on the triangle portion of the cap,close to the back of the front seat as possible so thats why I was thinking of filling with a 3/4" ply triangle to make it thicker and transfer the load... the ply would measure roughly 24" deep and about the same across the back. Of course I would loose the teak slats and nav light for the bow roller.

That's a toughie Rick and for sure not the first. I did a little research before I saw this pic so that changes a few things. I think from what I read the feed and return seem to be issues. As far as structure I would put a nickle on it that you have the support and the cleat would help. For another nickle like you I'll bet somehow we'll or others will figure a way to add more structure for pc. of mind. Need to look into it more. new area for me too. hmmmmm.

So Mr.UPS guy dropped of my new to me windlass... What a great deal It's a Quick Aster 500w unit....saw it list price of $1700 on sale for $1250..... My Craigslist:target: find $200 + $50 shipping and insurance. Great condition all I need is a breaker and switch :bounce:

Right now I have no place to work on the boat.....It's just a parts finding mission... By the time I collect up all the parts it should be warm enough to start. I do have a small garage that I can fabricate the side panels and glass them so that's a bonus

Thats just fine. I've been able to work in my teepee, so I have to transfer some pics so people can see the work. Just that posting into photo-ucket is another challenge with time management skills. At least you can run the wiring and make a game plan on the install for when it gets warmer

I see one issue with mounting a windlass and bow roller on my boat... There is a step in the cap about 1" down from where the windlass will sit and the bow roller.

I will be buying some new wood for the swim platform that I need to rebuild because of a chunk of ice that fell off the roof of the house and crushed it.... Its a shame since I rebuilt and refinished the teak platform prior.....

I won't be buying any teak because of the $$$$$ of it. I will be using a decking lumber called Tigerwood.

So back to the windlass issue..... I'm going to take about a 12" piece of wood and cut it out to fit on the tip of the bow shaped like a boomerang (for lack of a better term) and mount it with some SS carriage bolts. That should get everything on the same plane.... I can then mount the self launch roller assembly on the front and my rode and chain will be straight.

Since I will be changing the wood on the platform I'm getting enought to change out all the teak rails,glove box and cooler,dash and ski locker so it matches.....now if the snow and cold would just go away! 6 weeks till SPRING!!

Hi guys its been a long time so time for an update... I went full blown on making the ski boat into a fishing boat. The windlass worked out great and the swim platform came out even better than expected. I did so much last year.... New dash all new gauges blue tooth radio,marine radio with 8' antenna, full Simrad system 7" touch screen,pulse sonar,structure scan and 3g radar.All the vinyl and carpeted side were replaced with sheets of Azek pvc board. Went with a full radar arch,rod holders all over the place,Cree LED floods x6 with a total output 15,000 lumens... new 6' bimini top,porta potty under the rear jump seat,2 solar panel trickle chargers for my batteries. I even constructed a cuddy enclosure in the bow out of duck canvas with fiberglass bows to have a place to sleep ​.
