Hello all -

We have a 1987 I-6 115hp Merc with a couple of problems.

This past weekend I noticed a significant amount of oily water discharging from the exhaust. I know its gasoline not lower end oil (already rebuilt that this year). I know some discharge is normal, but both instances of the discharge were pretty substantial.

Second issue - putting this motor into gear it often stalls, more often in reverse than forward.

I am suspect of the middle carb....I beleive the float isn't floating correctly. Went I pump the bulb, fuel can flow out of the orrifice, especially if the motor is trimmed up.

I am planning to have the carbs gone over this fall before storage. Any thoughts on the above issues?

Thanks a million!

Your needle and seat are bad or dirty in the carb/carbs. The extra oil gas is flowing out the front of carb and out in the water. They sell the rebuild kits for the carbs.

Robbie, A faulty fuel pump diaghram allows raw fuel into the crankcase, where it can make it's way into the exhaust. After you fix the carb, and if you still have an issue, you can pull off one of the pulse hoses on the fuel pump and see if it oozes fuel when you pump the primer.
