Help!!
Purchased boat this summer. It's been a lawn ornament since. I have started getting it ready for winter.... I lowered the outdrive and changed the lower unit oil. Went to run engine and the battery was dead. Replaced battery. Decided to move boat (wife doesn't like where it is in the yard) so went to raise the outdrive and got nothing. Down...heard motor going...UP...nadda, zilch, nothing. Found wire connection that had come lose. Tried to raise outdrive again and heard motor but it is not going up!! It was working before the wire came loose. If it goes down or the motor runs I would think that it is gettign juice and the fuses are all fine.
What should I do? Is there a manual way to raise outdrive so I can trailer it to a shop?

-JustMrWill

Do this;

First, Search this forum for related posts, I've seen plently,

secondly post your questions after exhausting you ability to search this forum.

thirdly, just so I'm not taken as a smart$$# here are my thoughts.

Top off the oil in the hydro pump.

Verify and comfirm the motor is spinning.

Verify the noise you are hearing is coming from the pump and not a selonoid.

Measure the voltage at the pump connectors.

get a manual and follow instructions on bleeding the cylinders.

Give a man a fish and a he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll buy a Bass Boat.

Thanks. Have manual. It states that there is a manual release valve to lower the unit...would I use this to raise it manually as well? I just want to get it trailerable quickly so I can get it looked at by a machanic this year. I will search forum as well. Sorry, new to forum and just now found the search link..8-(.

-Will

If all you need to do is trailer it to a mechanic, I'd just take one or both nuts off and slide the bolt out of the drive end of the cylinders. You can rigg the drive up with a ratchet strap or rope it up securely. you might need help holding the drive up while you tie it off.

Re: 87 OMC 4.3L Tilt Stuck

Having a wrench suitable for removing the nuts on the cylinder bolt is standard material in all of my boats. Nothing can be more embarrassing or frustrating to fellow boaters at the ramp when you have an outdrive stuck down for numerous reasons; Low fluid, burnt pump, broken hose, bad battery and/or connections. Also include a good length of strong rope, (I have a adjustable tow strap).

The last time this happened to me, I had the outdrive strapped up in about 5 minutes and my fellow boaters at the ramp said, "Gee, looks like you've done this before."

I also have a 20" piece of 2x4 since it works real nicely between the outdrive in the up position and the transom bracket.

Hope you've got it up and on the way to repair.
