Hello everyone. I have a problem where at first my motor would start with the choke lever and run but as soon as you push the lever down, it would not idle. Looked at previous posts and decided to take off the carbs and inspect. Everything looks OK. Now after installing the carbs it won't even start. I'm thinking carbs maybe have something blocked. Maybe fuel pump?
BTW the boat ran fine last fall and had stabilizer added. This was the first time starting of the season. Any ideas? Thanks for the input.

guido, the lever is the fast idle not the choke. you either have a button to push for choke, or you push the key in to choke the engine. now as far as the present problem goes you have to have 3 thing. compression, sprark, and proper fuel/oil/air mix. if you took the carb off and looked at it and reinstalled without disassembling it , soaking it over night in carb cleaner, blowing it out with compressed air, running a small wire the the orifices. then reassembling it with a new carb kit with a new float, you have wasted your time, and made matter worse. then you may need to do a linc and sinc, afterwords to get the carb back in time with the electrical.

My bad. The carb was soaked, blown out and replaced. Everything was marked and replaced exactly as it was when it was removed. It's like it's starving for fuel.

My dad's acutally doing the work, I'm just asking the question. He's 50 miles from me. :}I don't believe he used a kit, just replaced it. Not sure about the plug. I know, I'm not providing enough info, but it's tough to troubleshoot when the boats that far away. I'll ask the question tho'. Thanks!

OK rebuilt carbs, new floats and new plugs. She starts and idles pretty good but still a slight miss. Put new plugs in b4 rebuilding carbs. Could it need new plugs now, after carb rebuild?

it may need a decarb, in the engine faq forum. works wonders on a lot of engines. does your gas have entanol in it? glad it's running, also did you adjust the idle screw with the boat in water. this may be you miss.. now in the engine faq section carb adjustment.

Re: 88 40 hp starting problem

Took the boat out last night. Ran pretty good but would not idle. I'm not seeing an idle screw. Only linkage to the fast idle. I'm going to ask a stupid question. Is this where it is adjusted. I'm having a rough time viewing the FAQ's forum. Thanks!
