i got a 88 chevy 5.7 and i just did a tune up new wires, plugs and cap kit..... i removed the wires without marking or anything cuz the cap has the numbers maked and i just used the cap number with the intake firing order... my problem is that the motor wants to start but its back firing out the carb... i already removed number one plug put it to tdc on comperssion stroke and then timed the dizzy, so why is it still back firing???

Got something crossed.
There is a firing order stammped on the intake manifold.

Sometimes the wires are moved around on the cap, still in order but not necessarily plugged into the related number on the cap. If a distributor was removed then not aligned correctly that can be a common practice (moving the wires around) rather than re-installing the distributor with correct alignment. You should get the engine timing mark to TDC then see what terminal the rotor is pointing at.

Oops, meant to say verify firing order is correct, then check to see where the rotor points when engine is at TDC on #1.

When verifying the firing order make sure you go around the cap in the same direction the rotor turns.

He did say he checked timing so that would indicate the rotor will be pointing at #1 when at TDC.
