Re: 88 85 force issue

The tower locks in place so it won't over rev in neutral.Unless somthing came unhooked.
Need to unhook all the connections and start in neutral. Then re-hook the cables and adjust as needed.
Profile?? You might be close to someone who can help.J

102_6450.jpg102_6454.jpg102_6455.jpgMost likely the throttle and shift linkages are out of sync, resulting in the timing tower/throttle hanging up on the neutral interlock.

Check under the bottom carb and on the shift linkage you will see a square shaped plate. On the timing tower you will see a roughly trianguular plate. If the square plate shows rub marks, it is a sure sign that the triangular plate is hanging up on ot.

Then, you need to readjust the cables so that the engine shifts into either gear before the throttle starts to open and shifts out of gear before the throttle closes fully.

here are a couple of photos showing the neutral speed limitin interlock. Notice that in one photo the engine is in gear and one plate is directly below the other. Notice that in neutral they are directly in front of each other. They will touch when you advance the throttle in neutral thus limiting RPM.
