I just had my boat out for first fishing trip of the year. Motor was running good full throttle until I hit rougher water. When hitting bigger wakes the motor would bog down a bit. If I throttled down it was fine. Then I'd throttle back up and all would be good until I hit more wakes. I got to my spot and trolled for 5 hours with no problem. On the way back, had the same problem as going out exept the water got much rougher and the motor ended up running on just one cylinder by the time I got back to the dock. Any ideas?

Might I add It's model# 856x8a, Serial# 2354. The Spark plugs that are in it are
Champion UL18V. Are these the correct plugs.

Re: 88 85hp force

I put new plugs in and it ran fine today.......for a while. After about 2 hours and a few trips up and down the lake, same problems as before. For some reason I am fouling my plugs. I am using the Mercury oil, marine Stabil, and first time out I put some dri-fuel in to take care of any water that may have accumulated over the winter due to condensation. I am using regular octane gas. Should I be using Premium grade gas with higher octane? Any suggestions? Where are the "experts"? HELP!!!!!!

Re: 88 85hp force

fish blood... I have the same engine 856x8a 1988... I had the same problem when i first put my boat in 2 seasons ago.. I would look into the fuel pump diaphram problem..

Now somethings I have setup on my Motor
I use the NGK plugs.. Without the electrode.. Never foul them
I run 89 octane fuel always
I run pennzoil Full Synthetic 2 stroke oil 50 to 1
My Air metering screws on carbs are set 1 1/8 turn out from seating pos
My timing is set at 28 degrees static timed...
My boats only 16 foot but i run a 13x17 alum prop and sometimes a 13 1/4 x 15 pitch stainless prop...
Top speed 32 mph ...

Now How does the charging system on your boat work.. Ive never gotten stuck,or the battery go dead... However my charge voltage Never goes over 12.5 to 12.8 volts... This with a new stator, regulator, battery and New volt gauge... Im curious how urs is since you have the same engine....
If you need anymore info let me know.. Maybe we can chit chat about setups

Cleaned the fuel filter. A little bit of gunk in there. Gonna take her out again tomorrow and see if that will help.
