I just 'acquired' an 88 Chaparral 235 XLS yesterday and it looks like I have a wee project on my hands, so I'm here to pull from the vast amount of knowledge of y'all.
I haven't yet attempted to turn the engine over, haven't even pulled the dipstick. The hull appears to be in good condition with no delam, however the previous owner put hull paint below the water-line... isn't that odd?
Remarkably, the cabin looks great. All of the cushions and flooring is in good condition. The main deck however is quite weathered... the carpet will have to be pulled and flooring inspected for weakness. Instrument bezels are cracked and there's significant play in the helm. The seating surfaces are shot!
I will soon be checking out the 5.7l Merc. Get a battery on board and see how we're sitting there...
Any and all POSITIVE input is greatly appreciated. I hope to document my progress here until we hit the water!
