I just bought a 1988 Evinrude 4hp that swivels for reverse. The motor is hard to swivel. There are two "collars" or bearings that the lower unit turns in. I don't see any grease fittings on these; how are they lubricated? Do I have to disassemble them?

Some of those smaller motors have a tension adjustment ob them. Look on the shaft between the 2 collars for a screw/bolt or something like that.

bay,

That grease gets old and stiff.

There should be a line ofd screws on the outside of the housing (both sides) that the motor swivels on.

Loosen those and squirt some carburetor cleaner in there. Refill the space with a good "white" lithium marine grease.

Thanks guys. I think the old grease is just stiff.
I found the tension adjusting screw and loosened it but no change.
