88 johnson 40hp kill switch

My kill switch tether is broken and needs to be replaced. Is it a big deal to open up the control box on these motors to replace the switch?

If the tether is broken, no need to replace the switch. Most John/Rude dealers carry the replacement tether and key which is much better than the original cap tether.
