i have an 88 suzuki 30 hp 3 cylinder motor the lower oil seal in the bottom of the motor went bad allowing a little water to leak into the cowling while at the river the motor started to spit and sputter on the way back to landing and i thought i heard a sqeeking noise comming from motor so i got a buddy to tow me back not to make matters worse the warning lamp also stays on but motor runs fine after repplacement of the seal i checked the water pump impeller bc i noticed no water was getting to the thermostat which was gutted out by previous owner. so i replaced the impeller and the water now circulates fine and motor doenst get too hot to to touch block while running so it should be cooling properly i also ordered a new thermostat waiting on it to get here now. i took the boat out after the seal and impeller fix just to see if it was running properly and it ran like a top while idling but when i tried to give it throttle it sputtered as if i took the gas hose off but it was getting plenty of gas and i also noticed the sqeeking/chirming sort of sound so i immediatly shut off and went home no one around her works on suzuki motors advice would be greatly appreciated thanks and im new here and can tell this is a great site thanks guys

Can you give a more description on the sound? Is it a cough or chirping sound?

I am not sure how a lower oil seal will put water in the cowling. That does not make sense to me.

Water cooled motors need to have there thermostats in place or some type of restriction in place of it to get the proper water circulation through the motor.

May need to check compression to see if you caused problems from overheating.
How did you tell there was no water to thermostat?
Did the tell tail show water flow?

So I pressure checked the motor today and cylinder 2 and 3 had 125psi and 1 had 80 so I pulled the head and found the piston looked like it had been sand blasted on the top and bottem halfs and the head looked the same way as if tjey struck each other they were both scored in the same place however the cylinder walls looked decent no major scoring so I got a quote of 1800 for a rebuld and I don't think its worth it and to aswer above questions yes it would pee out the tell tale but when I pulled tje thermostat cover off it was bone dry this motor has been nothing but problems so I'm checking in to buying a new motor with a warrantee

Sorry to hear, but you should be able to part it out.
May not be very many people looking for parts for a 1988 30hp, but it never hurts to try
