I just pulled this lower unit off good power head that I bought last weekend. I wondered what the threaded connecter at the front of the shifter rod is. I thought at first it was a wire, but it looks like a tube. The Clymer manual I have makes no mention of it at all. So this is more a curious question. I didn't damage it, but since no mention was made of it in the manual, I was wondering what is and how important it is if I had damaged it.

Are you taking about the water pick up for the pressure activated speedometer? There should be a small hole in the leading edge of the lower unit. There is one on my DT115 and DT140 but they are clogged. No matter, I don't have a speedometer.

I really dont know. I was guessing a sensor for something to do with the shifter rod position, but as I said, I'm simply guessing.

OK, guess it must be a speedo pickup tube .. received another post indicating that was what it was.
thanks
