I am having trouble finding the part number for the adapter that goes from the large engine water hose to the gimbel water tube on this drive system. I wasn't able to get mine off without destroying while putting a bellows kit on. I've checked both the engine and sterndrive parts books at Mercury but all I have been able to find is the water tube shock bushing that holds the gimbel tube in the transom plate. The engine books shows all the water hoses but I can't find the adapter. This is a rubber busing that goes over the gimbel tube and then the engine water hose goes over the outside. Any ideas? thanks!

BT, I am actually looking for the adapter bushing that goes over 86908. Its an rubber bushing that goes over the gimbel tube and then has a big enough diameter for the engine hose to go over it. It adapters the gimbel tube to the larger engine water hose.

At first I thought it might be 28055 but that is a different bushing that serves as a shock absorber for the 86908 where it goes through the transom plate.

Ayuh,....... Just use an inch or so of the smaller diameter water hose on the nipple, 'n then the bigger hose over the smaller hose, 'n clamp it together,.....

There shouldn't be a bushing. The hose that goes from the water tube to the engine is the right size for that tube, without need for any sort of bushing. 28055 is a bushing that forms a water tight seal between the copper water tube and the gimbal housing. Nothing to do with the hose that goes to the engine. If the hose that goes to the engine is too big for the copper water tube, it's the wrong hose!

Not necessarily Chris most of the newer mercruisers use a collar on the tube ,then the hose

I've only seen that on Bravo drives, where the engine driven pump is pulling a lot more water, so using larger hoses reduces the risk of collapse. I've also checked on the parts diagrams for 888 and there is no reducer/bushing for that hose.

Thanks for the advice guys. I agree there is no part in the parts book for this. Here is a picture of the adapter and the engine hose. The engine hose is 11/4 and the water tube is 5/8. According to the parts books the water tube being 5/8 is correct so if appears the hose coming from the front of the engine back to the water tube is incorrect? At any rate, I's sure I could use layered hoses to adapt if that is acceptable?
