I just added a used TNT unit to my motor. It goes up and down smoothly but there is a slight popping sound when it goes down. It seems to be coming from inside the TNT motor housing. Is this normal or did I buy a worn out TNT unit?

I can't help with your problem, but I have been looking for an affordable used TNT unit myself for a long time. If yo don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the used unit and where did you get it?

It sounds like air bubbles. Mine has done that after adding fluid to it. At least I hope it's air bubbles....

I bought it on Ebay---it was less than 400.00 which is less than half that my dealer wanted for a new one.---I'll try bleeding the system and see if that takes care of the problem---Thanks

Woody, to be honest if you're gonna drop more than one or two "boat dollars" on a used TNT that you have no idea if it will operate correctly, then you're probably better off looking into the CMC units, which are sold through iboats. They are a little pricey, but they also set the motor back a couple extra inches for better performance. I'm going that route if my TNT decides to fail on me. I have the notorious TNT on my motor, with the cylinders on the outside, and the pump/motor that could only be purchased as a unit, for around 300 bones.

I thought about getting one of those aftermarket units but my steering cable doesn't have enough slack for the 6" set back. Plus, all electrical connections are internal---just like factory installation.

I think it is the same TNT unit. I have the Evinrude manual and it has a good chapter on working on the unit. Plus, on the Evinrude website there are downloadable diagrams that give a complete breakdown.

Woodduck17, thanks for the infro. Although the Evinrude website, I couldn't find any break down on the unit it self. I am still seaching the web for a diagram. I figure that i will have to go to the dealer and get seals and get him to copy me a picture of the unit. thanks.
