After hours of skimming through this awesome forum I finally decided to make a post. I recently bought a 16' thundercraft with a 89' 50 Force on it for 50 buck off a friend of mine. About 5 years ago it had a old mercury on it and it died and his grandpa gave him the Force and we mounted it up and ran it in a 55gallon drum of water. Ran fine for a minute or so and then all the sudden nothing. No spark, no nothing. So after 4 years of sitting uncovered I finally got it. I bought a Seloc manual and seen that there is a reset button on the motor so hopefully that was all that tripped. The motor looks almost new so I'm assuming it was used very little. I'm hoping all I have to do is hook it up to a new batch of gas and a new battery and she will run. I also had a question about the spark plugs, I pulled them out and there is no electrode (not sure exactly what it is called but the little "L" shaped thing) on the spark plugs. I've never seen a plug like that. Should there be one on there or is a special kind of deal? Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do before turning the key? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Re: 89' 50 Force revival

I've got the same motor on a 15' bayliner.Last year when I got the boat for free,I gutted the boat and am replacing the whole interior.Mine had been sitting for at least 5 years.I replaced the oil in the lower unit, sprayed some WD40 into the carb and plug holes and turned it a few times by hand.Put in fresh gas, primed it up and guess what.It started like it was running last week.I still plan on rebuilding the carb and replacing the impeller(pumped water fine on start)before I take it for a run.Everyone is always putting Force motors down, but, this thing started better than my 2000 Merc 115 that I use every weekend.

My new one did exactly the same, and then 30 minutes into a lovely boat trip, the motor seized with a busted bigend.

I'm now after some parts if you know of any kicking around (namely conrod and possibly a crank).
