I'm wanting to replace my 89 pro50lf with a 2000 90hp. Both are yamaha outboards, but I've been told that I need some sort of pigtail adapter or something to make my current controls (89 50hp) work with the new 2000 model 90hp. Is this sounding right? Anything else that I need to know or might run into will be helpful. I'm also wondering how much this adapter thing costs.

Do u have a 703 remote control box? I know they changed the pig tails over the years, the 2000 90hp should have a 9 or 10 pin pigtail on the motor, some of the older motors were like 6 pin But they do make adapters. Model #'s on the motors would help solve this question easier. The 90 horse probably has power trim & tilt did your 50? If so your remote box will work.
