I,m getting ready to glue in a new transom for my 89 Chaparel and would like some suggestions on what type of Fiberglas/Resins to use for this job. This will by my first attempt and I don't want to screw it up and have to redo it.......Thks
Post some pictures if you have some (may have to re-size them to about 250 KB)
@BaylinerChuck just finished off a restoration of his Chappy, so check out his thread. Most folks use polyester resin for the rebuilds and a variety of chopped strand mat (CSM) and stitched cloth (like 1708). Check out the various threads of similar boats for how folks installed the wood for their new transoms.
Replacing stirngers to about the front engine mount. rest look to be in pretty good/solid shape enough that I,m going to remove them. only splice to transom..
You can check out my thread also. Bayliner Chuck and I pretty much finished about the same time. Both had great results with polyester resin. I only had to go back to the gas tank, first bulkhead so you can look at the way I tied in to the good stringers. I had a ton of questions so you might get a bunch answered by grabbing your favorite beverage and digging in the a few threads. Let us know if you have any specific questions.
