Hopefully someone can help me out with my issue.
I have a 1989 Evinrude 70. The vro has been disconnected (just an fyi)
I just bought this boat a few weeks ago. I bought it as is, but did hear it run prior to purchasing it. The dealer did mention that they had replaced the power packs.
There are two issues
The boat does not want to idle very well unless the throttle is pushed far enough down to give it more fuel, or I pull up on the choke lever.
Is this a dirty carb issue or could this just be a problem with the idle adjustment screw?
Second question
When at 3/4 to WOT the motor does not seem to be putting out what it should. The motor vibrates and sputters (almost like its misfiring or running only on 2 cyl). There is no vibration at lower speeds. I'm not sure if my Tach works correctly, because at WOT my tach is only showing 4000 rpms.
I am fairly mechanically inclined as long as I have directions to follow, but is this something I should try to tackle myself by buying all the testing equip, or should I just take it in and have a dealer look at it.
What does the 3/4 to WOT issue sound like. I replaced the spark plugs and gapped them to .030 thinking it was a defective plug, and still the same issue.
Let me know your thoughts.
thanks
